Portugal.


It was amazing.


I've travelled quite a bit and I often find myself saying that I love a place but it's no Vancouver. Lisbon is a place I think I could call home.


First off, there is surfing and I love surfing which is mostly what I did when I was there.


Secondly, the portuguse like their pastries. I ate pastries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a wonder I didn't come home 15 pounds heavier ( I would like to thank point #1 for preventing that).


And finally, an area called Bairro Alto. It's a couple streets that are all bars, clubs and cafes; the go to night spot in Lisbon. I'm a huge live music fan and got to listen to everything from reggae to spanish music live. I also tried my feet at salsa dancing which I can sadly report, is not my foray. 


I guess I can't forget what this blog is even about, clothes! We timed Portugal well since most of the stores in Lisbon had sales going on. I was beyond thankful since it was so hot and I didn't pack enough dresses, hence this little sun dress.

It's fitting that of all the places I end up in Berlin, it's the opening fashion week party. 


Which is now considered a highlight of my life. 


I think the best way to sum up all of Berlin and that night in particular is that we got back to the hostel at 5:30am... our flight to Italy was set to leave at 7:00am.

Last Thursday we arrived in Rotterdam which is the city in Holland that my little brother lives in. 


We pretty much got in and then went right out. And that sums up the next couple of days: Eating, drinking and walking. This itinerary was repeated in Amsterdam. It was amazing. 


One of the great things about travelling is trying new things. It's a bitter sweet relationship because if you love something, chances are you won't be able to find it back home. Here are some of the things I've come to love and am indulging in excessively while I'm here:


Duvel: A belgium beer that translates to the devil. I kept asking why it was named that because it tasted so good. I was informed and found out for myself that it's because of how you feel the next day. 


Croquettes: There are fast food joints that consist of a wall of food in little windows. You put a euro in and pick out your food. It's like a giant warm food vending machine! This is where I first sampled these little bundles of meat paste. My first reaction was not a good one but by the last bite, I was loving it. 


Kapsalon: Everyone has there go to after the bar food and thats exactly what Kapsalon is. It's made of fries, donor meat, lettuce, cheese and garlic sauce. It's really heaven and a heart attack on a plate. 


River Island: A european clothing store I go in at least once a day.


Dutch men: Tall...oh so tall..


Clotted cream: Tea, pastries...you name it, this glorious whipping cream like substance can go on it. 


I'm pretty sure I could go on and on but then I would be spending far too much time on this computer as opposed to finding more things to love. I will have to leave some for the next post and city: Berlin!

After 14 hours of travel, I'm officially in Paris.


And luck would have it as I arrive, my backpack decides it would rather stay in Frankfurt.


My intial reaction was one of impending doom, I mean, all I wanted at that point of travel was my toothbrush and a warm bed. However, I quicky got over that and resumed my token travel emotion which is one of "Oh well".


Thankfully, the airline provided me with a travel kit that ended up having all sorts of things that I forgot to pack. And, the first thing I got to do when I got to Paris was go shopping.


Oh fate you know me so well.

New york blew my mind.


I loved the hustle and bustle, the lifestyle and most of all...the food.


We were recommended all sorts of restaurants but by far my favorite was one we stumbled across ourselves. In fact it wasn't even a restaurant, it was a food festival in Madison Square Park.


How it went down was that we were walking and we saw pretty garden lights; being girls, we were instantly attracted ot the pretty lights so we investigated.


My friend and I ended up sharing the most amazing pulled park sandwich I have ever had...in my whole life...like I mean ever. It was so messy, just dripping everywhere and I was wearing this white dress.


Yes, I know what your thinking and you are correct. I spilled on my white dress but that didnt stop me. After our sandwich and a couple beers, we hit west village and sang karoke, in particular Sir Mix Alot, Abba and Nirvana til the wee New York hours.

My littlest brother is back in Canada for a short stint before we (both my brothers and myself) all go backpack Europe together at the end of this month.


It's funny, as soon as he walked in the door, I was instantly brought back to what really matters: family. it was just this overwhelming sense of wholeness, having both my brothers in the same place.


I always get so caught up in life and maxing it out, that I forget these little things that I really should be the most grateful for.

the impression that i get

I guess I'm a romantic (See addiction to terrible romance novels).


But in this day and age that  we live in, there is little use for that.


So when I saw the "I Saw You's" in the Gerogia Strait, I was shocked that this kind of romantic spirit still exists.


I was also shocked that so many of them are not creepy/stalkerish/weird.


I guess thats what comes with being a romantic in a realist's world.
